Grand Rapids Area?
Sep. 29th, 2008 @ 10:48 pm
I'm a college student in Grand Rapids and I just got my car up here. This means I'm dying to find a stable near here!
Can anyone point me in the direction of a (classical) Dressage stable in the Grand Rapids/Alpine/Grandville/Wyoming, MI area that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? I'm right in downtown and I'm looking to drive 20 minutes or less to get there.
Any help is much appreciated!
Current Music: Oxford Comma - Vampire Weekend
Well, the only place that I know is Fremont Riding & Training Center. Yes, it's not right in the GR area, but they have clients come from there. The Van de Larr's (owners/trainers) are very very highly qualified, probably the highest qualified trainers in the state. Tony was long listed for the Canadian eventing team and Wendy is one of about 10 International level certified British Horse Society instructors in the States. And their lessons are (I think) about $35 for an hour private. I'm not 100% sure on the prices since it's been awhile since I've ridden with them (though my mom still does).
I'm sure they're nice, but that's only 30 minutes closer than my hometown. I could ride on weekends I go home for visits, but I'd rather something close to here so I don't have to make long drives/trips home.
Thanks for the suggestion, though :)
Laurie Moore is in that area. I think her barn name is TimberRidge. I'm not sure what she charges, but she's phenomenal.
I found a Laurie Moore in Lowell, MI?

That would be very do-able distance wise, but there's no info up right now. I'll keep it in mind, see if anything else comes up, might give her a call if nothing else does :)
That's the one! I knew her farm name was Timber-something.
